Fanfare for the King of Trumpets (12 Trumpets), Dr. Daniel Thrower

Composed by Dr. Daniel Thrower. Duration: 3:45. Commissioned by the International Trumpet Guild to honor the 2017 ITG Honorary Award recipient David Hickman, this piece was premiered at the 2017 ITG Conference in Hershey, PA by an all-star cast of Hickman colleagues and former students. One of Hickman's sayings, playing with the organ being commonly dubbed "the king of instruments," is that the trumpet is the "instrument of kings." The title of this rambunctious work for 12 trumpets (four choirs of three) further twists this theme to honor the man who, in many ways, can be thought of as the king of trumpets. This piece makes a great close for a university trumpet studio concert!
