John Parduba started making custom mouthpieces in 1915 then opened his original shop at 3rdAve, & 87 St., NYC. In 1918 where he fabricated trumpets and cornets of premium quality in addition to his mouthpieces and repair work.
THE DOUBLE-CUP IN 1935
In the early 30's Parduba moved to his new shop at 140 W 49th St., where in 1935 he introduced a remarkable new design in mouthpieces for brass instruments. This was the world famous "Double-Cup" which was unknown and not too popular until 1938 when Harry James discovered it while playing with the Benny Goodman Band across the street from Parduba's place at the Plymouth Hotel. As a result, the Parduba Double-Cup became an overnight success throughout the country with trumpet players in many top bands. Name players such as Ziggy Elman and Ray Anthony started using the Parduba and in 1943 Louis Armstrong joined the club. The entire trumpet sections of several name bands were using these fine mouthpieces. Because of the success of his mouthpieces, Parduba discontinued making trumpets and cornets and doing repair work and specialized only in making mouthpieces. Today, by all standards, the Parduba Mouthpiece is still one of the best and most popular.

DOUBLE-CUP MOUTHPIECES
The unusual patented design of the Parduba "Double-Cup" mouthpiece enables a great ease of playing in the high register. This is noticeable the very first time that one tries this mouthpiece. After adapting to this design, it is possible to attain excellent control, and a beautiful tone is often realized when using the larger sizes such as the numbers: 5, 6, and 7.

Although the cup appears to be very shallow, the lower half of the cup gives great length to the overall shape of this Double-Cup design which in turn produces a very brilliant yet rich melodic tone. One must be very careful not to overblow this mouthpiece since it takes much less effort to execute a tone than other types of cups.

Sizes run from the No. 1 to the No. 8, the higher numbers indicate the larger sizes. No. 7(16.89mm) cup diameter closest to a Bach No. 1 1/2(17.00mm), No. 6 (16.46mm) closest to a Bach 7(16.20mm), a No. 5(15.85mm) is closest to a Bach 10-1/2(15.90mm), and the No. 4(15.34mm) is closest to a Bach 12(15.20mm). See chart below.

THE PARDUBA DOUBLE-CUP MOUTHPIECE
Gives you two mouthpieces in one. The scientific reaming of the top of the cup furnishes the shallow tones and they come with the greatest of ease. G comes true. High B-flat comes as effortless and with as great volume as G is ordinarily produced. The extreme high tones, which occur occasionally in ordinary music and frequently in solo playing or in difficult passages, are produced easily and with full volume because the shallow upper cup puts them within reach by increasing the performers range. This is all accomplished with the Parduba Double-Cup Mouthpiece without sacrificing tone quality or volume in the middle and lower registers because the lower part of the cup is of the regular conventional bore.

Designed scientifically to give you in one mouthpiece all the Outstanding Features which the ordinary mouthpiece cannot.
Clearer and Higher Tones. Rich Full Penetrating Tones Throughout Entire Registers. Effortless Playing Ease. Increased Endurance. Balanced Breath Control.

WHAT IS THE DOUBLE-CUP MOUTHPIECE?
The Double-Cup Mouthpiece is arranged with two different chambers. The upper shallow cup is for freedom one vibration of the lips and to permit getting high tones easily. The lower cup is designed for the middle and low tones. The formation of these two cups in respect to each other, is such that there is no waste of energy, such as results from unnecessary whirls or eddy currents of air vibrations. The air vibrations being produced by the lips on the Double-Cup Mouthpiece are directly transferred to the tone producing chamber, permitting the player to produce Rich, Full Penetrating Tones throughout entire registers; yet a pianissimo which is sweet and clear and which can instantly be increased to a double tone of surprising brilliance and volume. Endurance that will be increased beyond your greatest expectations. Effortless Playing Ease that will amaze you. Ease of playing Higher Tones that will thrill you.
