Within weeks, a nearby coal mine experienced a severe 'mine bump' that trapped six miners. Another bump claimed the lives of three rescuers. This devastating series of events shocked the entire community, and every person was greatly affected, even the newcomers. The families continued to suffer; their loved ones were not there for holidays or other important family events. My gift to them was this moving composition, premieredat the College of Eastern Utah almost a year and a half after the disaster, with guest soloist Dr. David Marlatt playing euphonium."
